ROSE
I believe inspiration is all around us. We just need to open our senses to see it. No matter at which stage you are, whether you are an amateur artist or an experienced one, you can face the creative/artist block (to which I'll mostly refer to as Miss. Stubborn in the following post). As an artist, I also face this mental block now and then. Believe it or not, this is not a rare phenomenon. This block occurs irrespective of your genre, age, experience, or area of interest and can be quite obstinate. It can bother you for days and can give you a real hard time, depending on how well you know how to overcome it. Sometimes we ought to be a little churlish and show Miss. Stubborn the way out. But how do we do that?
As I mentioned in the very beginning that the inspiration is ubiquitous, we just need to see it. Now some of you might not believe this. So, here I would like to share a personal experience with you all. A few days back Miss. Stubborn decided to pay me a visit. She decided to stay with me for some time and just like an unwanted guest, quite shamelessly she extended her stay. I am assuming you've already imagined my struggle during her imposed visit. I wasn't able to shoot. I wasn't able to concentrate and of course the worst part, I wasn't able to come up with any satisfying concept to create something that would calm my mind and soul. As I have always said that poetry moves me, inspires me, shakes me! Whenever I feel stuck, I go back to my literature days, and I delve myself into poetry, the autobiographies of poets, writers, and playwrights of different genres. I dabble into paintings and lives of painters.
You must be wondering, does she find some kind of magic in poems or paintings to create art? But the truth is, what we need is just a tiny dot, a little spark to ignite the inspiration which is already around us. That's what books and paintings do to me. So one evening I was shuffling through my notes and there! There she was! No, not Miss. Stubborn (phew) but my tiny dot, My inspiration! And I instantly knew that it's time to bid adieu to Miss Stubborn. And what did I find in my notes? A poem! A poem by W. B Yeats, one of the pioneers. And as I began to read "The Lover Tells of the Rose in His Heart," I started weaving a concept in my mind. And by the time I reached the ending where the poet says, "For my dreams of your image that blossoms a rose in the deeps of my heart," I had imagined my subject, the outfit, the concept, the mood, the lighting. First I experimented with my concept on myself and then I did a complete shoot with my model Ayushi.
